Are you stuck in a dating rut? Have you kissed a lot of frogs in 2016? Fret not! The New Year means a fresh start when it comes to all things dating, love and romance-related.
Many people use the time from Boxing Day onwards, throughout January and the early part of the year, to focus on their love lives. On Lovestruck.com, for instance, there was a huge increase in traffic during this time. 45 per cent of their members said that they thought the holidays were the best time to focus on dating and new subscriptions increased by 58 per cent, which was a combination of new and returning daters.
So with that in mind, we thought we’d draw up some resolutions to stick to come 2017.
Put yourself out there: Yes, it might be scary but the best way to meet new people is to make yourself available and emotionally open. Delete your ex’s number from your phone, forget the fact you’ve eaten one too many Quality Streets and put out a positive vibe. You will be instantly more attractive to the opposite sex if you ooze confidence.
Write a new dating profile: if you are new to online dating the perfect profile can help you attract the right partner. If you’ve been dating online for a while, go back and refresh your profile. If you get stuck, ask friends for their help, avoid clichés – and most of all, be honest.
Try not to have a ‘type’: While it’s good to know what you are looking for, if you have a specific list of deal-breakers, involving things like hair colour or professions, you are seriously limiting yourself. It’s important to expand your options and be open to new types and circumstances. You never know who might be just around the corner…
Try some fun new dates: Do you find yourself always having drinks or dinner? No matter how creative you are, it’s hard coming up with killer date ideas every day but once in a while, try to think completely outside the box. Go to the zoo, try a cooking class or play tourist in your own city. You may see a completely different side to your date.
Remember to have fun: more than anything, dating is fun. Inject a large dose of humour and you’ll have a great time. If you find yourself tired or fed up, take a break for a couple of weeks and come back to it with a clear head.
Good luck!
