January 3:
The Best Day for Singles Trying Online Dating
Match.com, Plenty of Fish and many other online dating sites often see a considerable spike in new users on the first Sunday after the Christmas holidays are finished. Numerous dating apps also see more people downloading and on the hunt for someone new to date. So, if you are single and looking, then it may be a good idea to get swiping!According to data, January is definitely the busiest time of year for online dating sites. It may have something to do with the engagement photos that tend to flood Facebook timelines around Christmas. It’s not just that, however; and it’s not just your single friends bombarding you with questions either. Dating sites like Plenty of Fish (which has around 3 million users daily) expect a 24% jump over the course of January 3. Roughly 81,000 people have been expected to sign up.
"The number are set to pay off for hopeful singles,” public relations and communications manager Shannon Smith of Plenty of Fish said. “Users who sign up during the first week of January will find their partner an average of two weeks faster than those who sign up later, taking an average of just 10 weeks compared to an average of 12 weeks throughout the year."
According to Match.com, the Sunday after New Year’s Day is the busiest time of the year. "It's as close to a national holiday for single daters as you can get. Match has proclaimed it 'Dating Sunday', and with good reason," Julie Spira, online dating expert, stated on Match.com’s blog. Match.com invited users last year to "join the biggest online party of the year" – registrations usually peak before 9pm ET.
"Match.com found that 51% of singles' New Year’s resolutions will be to socialize more and focus on finding that special someone, making the desire to connect with someone a driving force for singles to get online and holidays," Match.com president Amarnath Thombre announced in 2014.
Other dating sites, naturally, have confirmed that there is a much higher number of signups during the start of the year. Dating site HowAboutWe.com informed Today.com that membership generally spikes at 40% during the first two months. According to ChristianMingle.com, their new memberships reach the 41% mark.
Those who have Tinder may find a lot more luck as well when it comes to getting new dates.
"Generally speaking, Tinder use sees a spike during the beginning of the New Year," Tinder spokeswoman said.
According to Washington Post, it’s not just dating sites that see a spike in traffic around this time of the year. There is also post-holiday spike in searches for pornography, condom sales, conceptions and people changing their relationship status.
The Washington Post said that it isn’t just dating sites that experience a traffic spike. Post-holiday, there is often a higher jump in searches for things like pornography, as well changing relationship statuses and condom sales.
