Dating in Cyberspace:
"Virtual Reality" Becomes Reality
Virtual reality is (literally) becoming a reality. It’s development shows an interesting trend that seems to be on the horizon. Video games, business meetings, watching sports games and even online dating regardless of where you are: it all seems possible through this new medium. Oculus Rift, owned by Facebook, is probably one of the world’s most well-known forms of virtual reality and may possibly have something to do with the beginning of virtual reality dating, according to The Examiner. It does make sense, considering that Facebook is one of the biggest networks of humans on the planet. Bringing virtual reality and profiles together could make for a very interesting dating experience. At the moment, most dating sites are a lot like shopping catalogue where you flick through the pages and shop around for the best products. Unfortunately, that's nothing like going to the shops: you've no idea what you're signing up for until you actually go on the date!
Get a Real-Life Feel Before Meeting
A TimeTrade survey showed that most people still prefer to shop at a physical store rather than online. This probably has something to do with the fact that they can see, feel and touch the products before they actually buy them. After all, you know exactly what you're getting before you hand over your cash. Virtual reality dating, it seems, is pretty much the same thing.
Of course, it is still a long way away. But online dating is something that people generally want to be careful with (unless you’re just going for a quick hookup - but even then safety can be a concern). You’re looking for a partner, someone to share your life with, and therefore you will need to be absolutely sure about the person in question. This is probably a large part of virtual reality's appeal: you can see and feel them without having to leave the house!
A Defense Against Catfishing
Catfishing is a major problem. The term refers to when individuals create a fake online dating profile in order to fool other singles online into thinking that they’re flirting with a real person. This is often done either for fun or in order to scam money out of someone. Virtual reality, it seems, may eliminate this problem entirely.
Virtual Reality Dating for Seniors
Older people are using online dating more and more, and virtual reality may make it even more accessible, especially to those who are stuck at home or are even bedridden. Added to that is the fact that people are living longer, meaning that there are more dating years ahead of everyone. So it seems that technology is making this even more possible than before!
