The Danger of the Dating Bubble
Match.com sprung into being 20 years ago and changed the face of dating forever. What once used to be the domain of matchmaking agencies and personals ads in newspapers is now the job of the Internet. Going online to hook up is no longer for strange people, either. Almost everyone seems to be on Tinder these days. Whilst generally seen as more of a hookup app, however, Tinder is somewhat general in that it has a wide audience. This is not true for all of them, however.
Changing Attitudes
Never before has society been more open when it comes to talking about sex. Couple this with the fact that online dating is now a mainstream activity, and you’re set. This can be seen in the number of people who have registered to sites like AshleyMadison (for people who want to have an affair). In general, attitudes towards sex have become incredibly lax.
A true sign of the times, however, is the dating app. And it’s not the apps themselves: rather, it is the way in which they function. Dating is becoming very specific…
Getting into the Specifics with Dating Apps
If you’re a hipster, the beard-dating Bristlr app may be your thing. If you feel that you’d prefer to be with people whom you respect, then The League will probably be more your cup of tea. If you’re a general lover of dogs, you may enjoy Tindog which could get you a date with another dog owner.
While it’s nice to be able to find something you really want, this can undoubtedly get boring. At some point, it may end up becoming a lot like homework. In many cases, a ‘dating bubble’ begins to form and you find yourself encountering the same people over and over again. This is where the spark truly seems to go out.
So, What is There to Do?
To some people nowadays, the idea of going out and simply meeting someone may be unfathomable and even a little intimidating. That is understandable. However, sometimes it’s good to be a little more open-minded and willing to date someone who falls a bit outside of your comfort zone. After all, isn’t that where the adventure truly begins?
